Definition of terms:

Joke:

1. Something done to ‘excite‘ laughter (Online Etymology Dictionary)

2. Something ‘untrue‘ that you tell another person in order to amuse yourself (Collins Dictionary)

3. Something ridiculous that does not deserve respect (Collins Dictionary)

Synonyms: nonsense, farce, parody

Joy:

A feeling/cause of great happiness (Cambridge Dictionary & Collins Dictionary)

Synonyms: delight, jubilation, triumph

Biblical references:

Joke:

“Obscene stories, foolish talk, and coarse jokes—these are not for you. Instead, let there be thankfulness to God.”

Ephesians 5:4 NLT

“Like a madman who throws firebrands, arrows, and death, Is the man who deceives his neighbour, And says, “I was only joking!””

Proverbs 26:18-19 NKJV

Joy:

“And Nehemiah continued, “Go and celebrate with a feast of rich foods and sweet drinks, and share gifts of food with people who have nothing prepared. This is a sacred day before our Lord. Don’t be dejected and sad, for the joy of the Lord is your strength!””

Nehemiah 8:10 NLT

“Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice!”

Philippians 4:4 NKJV

Comparison:

•> Jokes are prohibited/to be carefully filtered; Joy is a command

•> Joke is a destructive weapon; Joy is our strength

•> Joke is untrue (unreal, fake); Joy is a state (current, true situation)

Spiritual Mathematics:

Joy + Fake = Joke

In other words, jokes are a fake form of joy. They will make you laugh with a broken heart, distract you and stop you from seeing the reality of things.

Jokes will make you despise honourable things. Jokes will blow your mind and give you a childish view and opinion of things.

In conclusion, jokes are not good. If you want to experience real joy, stop joking and reading funny stories. Seek the truth and face the reality.

God bless 🙏🏿✨
