Witness vs Talebearer đźŽđź¤ąđźŹľâ€Ťâ™€ď¸Ź

~ Talebearer (definition from Collins English Dictionary): Someone who gossips in an indiscreet manner.
“A talebearer reveals secrets, But he who is of a faithful spirit conceals a matter.”
Proverbs 11:13 NKJV
~ Witness (definition from Collins English Dictionary):
1. a person who has seen or can give first-hand evidence of some event
2. a person or thing giving or serving as evidence
“But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
Acts 1:8 NKJV
Differences between Witnesses and Talebearers :
•> Talebearers will tell you what happened
Witnesses will tell you what GOD has done
•> Talebearers will tell you what they have been through
Witnesses will tell you what GOD took them out of
•> Talebearers will tell you what they have done
Witnesses will tell you what GOD has done through them
•> Talebearers focus on themselves, the world and the devil
Witnesses focus on the cross of Christ and wait upon God for more
•> Talebearers are haughty and proud
Witnesses are humble and give all credits to GOD
•> Talebearers are storytellers and gossipers
Witnesses are worshippers of GOD
•> And so much more!
I could keep going but the point is:
How many people know about your life? How many know about your discipline? How many know your full timetable? How many are informed whenever you go in or come out of a prayer room? How many know about your dreams and projects? Is your consecration life a secret or does what you live in the secret place go viral among your brethren?
“Should your fountains be dispersed abroad, Streams of water in the streets? Let them be only your own, And not for strangers with you.”
Proverbs 5:16-17 NKJV
We should avoid exposing our privacy or intimacy with The Lord because our lives are not stories to be told; they are epistles of Christ.
“clearly you are an epistle of Christ, ministered by us, written not with ink but by the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of flesh, that is, of the heart.”
II Corinthians 3:3 NKJV
Therefore, our lives should speak about Christ, not about ourselves and the numerous things that we do. People do not need to know how much we fast, how many times we pray, how hard we work/study, our dreams or all that we do for God.
Fruits will testify of our consecration, but our consecration in itself should be a secret between us and Our God. A truly consecrated life will surely bear fruits noticeable to all, without us having to prove anything to anybody (Matthew 7:16-17).
“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. […] For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith.”
Romans 12:1, 3 NKJV

God called us to be witnesses of Christ, not talebearers or storytellers of some events that happened to us. God called us to testify of the work of The Cross, not to tell people about us, our church or our religious denomination. God called us to be a proof, an evidence of His grace and mercy, not to condemn sinners by boasting in our works and closing the door to salvation by putting the standards very high.
Many of us point at themselves instead of pointing at Christ. Many of us live in self-righteousness and boast of their Christianity instead of boasting in The Author of our faith; Jesus Christ. Many of us have their eyes on themselves and testify of their past wounds, sins and sufferings instead of testifying of the goodness of God. Many idolise themselves and seek their own glory instead of chasing God’s glory. All this is called “Spiritual Pride” and it precedes destruction.
“Pride goes before destruction, And a haughty spirit before a fall.”
Proverbs 16:18 NKJV
Since none of us is looking forward to destruction, let’s put things back into place; or should I say, let’s go back to our original position, under the Hand of God, to worship and glorify Him as beloved children of The Most High, and accomplish the very reason for which we were created.
Just as the moon shines in the light of the sun, let’s remember we also shine in the light of Our Savior. The day we stop exposing our lives and point at Christ instead, we’ll stop gossiping about others and we’ll become true witnesses of the goodness and power of God.
